Footsteps supports and affirms individuals and families who have left, or are contemplating leaving, insular ultra-Orthodox Jewish communities in their quest to lead self-determined lives. Through our broad array of programs, critical supports and access to essential resources, Footsteps creates a vibrant community that celebrates the triumphs and advocates for the concerns of our members. Since Footsteps founding in 2003, the organization has served over 1,400 individuals. Footsteps budget has increased to meet the growing demand for services and, for the first time, will surpass $2 million in 2018.

Job Title: Senior Social Worker
Reports to: Director of Support Services
Position Type: Full Time or Part Time, Exempt

Position Overview:
Footsteps seeks an experienced, talented and dynamic clinician to serve as Senior Social Worker. The Senior Social Worker will provide direct clinical support – group and individual – to Footsteps members, and will provide clinical supervision to program staff and interns. They will play a central role in creating a warm, welcoming and safe environment for those who seek services from Footsteps. The Senior Social Worker will oversee emotional support programs and will pay particular attention ensuring that Footstep’s provides quality and coordinated services to our most vulnerable members. This position has specific supervisory duties.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical supervision, counseling, and coordinate in-service trainings to Program Staff
  • Provide one-on-one supportive counseling to Footsteps members
  • Work closely with Director of Support Services to refine support groups, identify emerging programmatic needs, and determine facilitators for peer-support groups
  • Facilitate peer-support groups
  • Provide crisis-intervention counseling consistent with Footsteps organizational, social work, and NY State guidelines; serve as emergency contact for weekend crises
  • Coordinate clinical care services for Footsteps members, utilizing in-house resources as well as outside agencies
  • Build out referral network and explore partnerships, especially around mental health, crisis supports, trauma and sexual abuse
  • Ensure that the clinical team makes documentation of member interactions a priority, documenting individual meetings, referrals and volunteer matches in Salesforce CRM
  • Make comprehensive observations of Footsteps members, track and maintain confidential records and discuss members’ progress towards goals and needs with staff
  • Conduct site visits to train peer organizations’ staff on the Footsteps population
  • Update and refine mental health and crisis policies and protocols
  • Represent Footsteps to partner agencies and relevant external stakeholders, in consultation with Director of Support Services
  • Respond to requests for internal and external reports

Experience & Qualifications

  • Passion for Footsteps’ mission and values
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a minimum of 10 years of related work experience
  • Experience providing clinical supervision to social workers and social work interns (SIFI training a plus)
  • Experience responding to mental health crises, and ideally in developing mental health crisis response plans
  • Knowledge of the New York social service arena and relevant referral agencies/services
  • Demonstrated commitment to documentation of client interactions and progress
  • Ability to work flexible hours including 1-2 evenings per week and occasional Sundays
  • Personal experience with the Footsteps population and/or individuals undergoing life transition, a plus

Salary Range: 55,000-65,000 FTE, commensurate with experience

Job Title: Social Worker

Position Overview:
Footsteps seeks a skilled Social Worker to provide direct clinical support — group and individual — to Footsteps members. They will be an integral part of ensuring that Footsteps meets our members emotional support needs and will play a central role in creating a warm, welcoming and safe environment for those who seek services from Footsteps. The social worker will join the Support Services Team, which provides critical services to Footsteps’ members, and will work closely with the Family Justice Coordinator to ensure parents maintain best possible relationships with their children as they leave ultra-Orthodoxy.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to Footsteps members through short-term individual counseling; provide wrap-around follow-up as needed
  • Work closely with Program Manager on Family Justice program to ensure quality wrap-around services are provided to members with children
  • Refer members to community resources, including Footsteps partners and other referral organizations
  • Facilitate peer support groups as needed
  • Conduct new member intakes as needed
  • Provide crisis-intervention counseling as needed, consistent with Footsteps organizational guidelines and in accordance with social work practices and NY State guidelines
  • Document individual meetings, referrals and volunteer matches in Salesforce CRM
  • Make comprehensive observations of Footsteps members, track and maintain confidential records and discuss members’ progress towards goals and needs with staff
  • Provide input into development of programs and policies
